For close to 40 years, Cell Lines has been using the manual German burn-off puller equipment until recently when the team decided to challenge itself as part of the Plant's innovation drive. The Department came up with the idea of motorized puller in order to be efficient and safe in its operation.
The conversion of the old abandoned German burn-off puller from manual to a motorized equipment was based on the following reasons:
- The manual equipment was laborious and cumbersome to operate, requiring a lot of time and energy.
- The manual operation was unsafe, especially during usage on a sick-cell, due to the level of exposure of the personnel to heat and fumes from the opened stall.
The new motorized burn-off puller was re-designed to meet this need, i.e. grabbing and pulling out burn off without taking out an adjacent anode and limiting the amount of exposure of the personnel undertaking the task.
